Job description:

Key Responsibilities

 

This position will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.

  • Develop and execute community engagement plans that align with the company’s stakeholder engagement plan and strategies.
  • Establish and maintain transparent and respectful relationships with local community members, leaders, and organisations.
  • Facilitate open communication channels between the company and the community to address concerns and gather feedback.
  • Prepare and distribute informational materials about the company’s operations, projects, and initiatives to the community.
  • Liaise with environmental teams to organise and facilitate community meetings, workshops, and forums to discuss projects and gather input from local stakeholders.
  • Identify potential environmental, human rights and socio-economic risks and impacts at early phase and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Identify potential conflicts or issues within the community and work towards resolving them through dialogue and negotiation.
  • Act as a mediator between the mining company and the community to address grievances effectively.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop and support social programmes that benefit the local community, including education, health, livelihoods and environmental initiatives.
  • Track and report on the effectiveness of community programmes and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Collect data and feedback from community members to assess the impact of mining operations on the local populace.
  • Prepare reports for management on community relations activities, issues, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Ensure that community relations activities comply with local laws and regulations, as well as company policies.
  • Stay informed about local social, political, and economic conditions that may impact community relations.
  • Educate company employees about community relations practices and the importance of maintaining positive community relationships.
  • Provide training and support to team members on effective communication and engagement strategies.
  • Ensure that community and employee grievances are reported and closed and feedback given to the aggrieved.
  • Any other duties as directed by Superiors empowered to exercise authority over him/her.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Environmental Studies, or a related field. A Master’s degree is added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in community relations, stakeholder engagement, or a related role within the mining or extractive industry.
  • Familiarity with rural communities in North Western province is an asset
