ZCCM Investments Holdings Plc (“ZCCM-IH” or the “Company”) wishes to invite applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the vacancy of Chief Investments Officer.
Job Description

Job Purpose

To lead and drive the core business of ZCCM-IH by developing and executing the company’s investment strategy to achieve sustainable growth, maximize shareholder value, and ensure long-term profitability. The role provides strategic leadership in identifying, evaluating, structuring, monitoring, and managing investment opportunities to ensure optimal returns. The CIO is also responsible for making data-driven recommendations to management regarding refinements to existing investments and assessing potential opportunities. As the project manager for all investments and projects, the CIO oversees risk management, ensuring that all ventures align with corporate objectives and industry best practices. Additionally, the role champions the company’s diversification agenda, steering ZCCM-IH’s expansion beyond the mining sector as outlined in the strategic plan.

Primary Roles and Accountabilities:

  • Drives the Organisation’s strategy on investments;
  • Creates new strategic and tactical investment portfolio and identifies the best execution methods for those investments.
  • Recommends investments, monitors the performance of investments, ensuring ZCCM-IH’s objectives are met and the strategic and financial goals achieved
  • Effectively communicate the investment policy and portfolio decisions
  • Identify the key investment projects for the Financial Year and develops Business Plans, thereof
  • Oversees the Company’s Financial investment analysis in investee companies and other sectors and conducts independent research to determine their viability
  • Maintains the financial analysis tool and tracks the trends on all investments.
  • Develops and submits financial analysis reports on each investment/ project for decision making
  • Leads in the monitoring of the performance for the investee companies; subsidiaries and other investments
  • Develops framework for decisions about the portfolio management strategies    used for investment purposes,
  • Leads processes for all portfolio management decisions and implementation, including asset selection, portfolio rebalancing
  • Responsible for overseeing portfolio allocation levels under various market conditions
  • Leads the construction and management processes for all portfolio models, including ongoing tactical adjustments as necessary
  • Promotes and establishes good working relationships with stakeholders and develop alliances that add value to the Business
  • Maintains good relationship in the financial sector to remain fully informed on various sources of finance
  • Actively monitors the social economic trends in the market to regularly align the funding program as per market norms and requirements
  • Leads and coordinates a team of highly qualified professionals in portfolio of base metals and legacy; industrial minerals; precious metals and minerals and energy and mineral beneficiation management
  • Responsible for the investments papers that go to the Investments Committee of the Board (ICB)
  • Leads and coordinates the Investment Team Day to day activities, including allocation of time and research resources and the optimization of a team-specific budget
  • Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals and staff discipline
  • Evaluate project proposals/ investment ideas
  •  Conducts detailed feasibility studies for investment evaluation of the project and developing, as well as presenting investment proposals for internal approval of the Investment Committee
  • Ensures that projects are efficiently and effectively managed according to the agreed timescale and budget
  • Monitors investment performance through project progress and maintains alignment with project and budget
  • Liaises with the risk function on risk management issues that directly impact the strategic direction of the company investments.
  • Manages the funds placements with financial institutions
  • Reviews treasury reports such as maturity, liquidity mismatch, interest risk gap analysis risk exposure, and concentration risk reports to enable management assess exposure to various risks in the operations sectors
  • Monitor subsidiary businesses to ensure that they efficiently and effectively provide needed products and services while staying within budgetary limits, investment performance targets and operational goals
  • Effectively mobilises human, financial, technical and material resources to enhance implementation of all investment projects in ZCCM -IH
Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications

 

Considerable competences at senior management level are required to understand and apply advanced policies, practices, procedures, concepts and principles in order to effectively perform in this role.

 

  • General Certification of Education (GCE) or equivalent with Credit or Better in Five (5) subjects, Mathematics and English included
  • Degree in Economics/ Accounting or equivalent.
  • ACCA/ CIMA /CFA or equivalent or business-related fields.
  • Master’s Degree in a relevant field
  • Relevant Professional Certification
  • Membership of relevant Professional Body
  • Professional Work Experience
  • Not less than 10 Years work experience in a busy and complex work environment of which 5 years must be at Management level.
  • High level experience in stakeholder management.
  • Proven written and oral skills and ability to distil and communicate complex matters at the highest levels.
  • Group holding company experience will be an added advantage.
