Job Description

Reporting to the Process Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for optimizing our mining operations and ensuring technological advancements in the control systems domain.

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Design, implement, and maintain advanced control system architectures using Siemens PCS7 DCS, PLC, and HMI systems.
  • Oversee the integration and functionality of Fieldbus technologies, including Profibus DP/PA, Modbus, and Profinet.
  • Manage the entire control process for mining operations, including ROM, crushing, milling, flotation, tailings management, and the recovery of precious metals such as copper.
  • Develop and implement strategies for Siemens Gearless Mill Drives and associated technologies.
  • Lead projects on Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), cloud computing, and virtual network architecture to enhance operational efficiency and data management.
  • Implement expert systems such as FLS PXP and Woodgrove PXP, ensuring they align with operational goals and enhance decision-making processes.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure system reliability and optimize performance.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to team members, enhancing their skills and knowledge in control systems engineering.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation related to control systems, ensuring that all changes and updates are accurately recorded and accessible.
  • Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and support to develop their technical skills and professional growth.
  • Develop a comprehensive training plan for junior engineers, aimed at enhancing their capabilities and readiness for future challenges in control systems engineering

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree/diploma in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the mining industry, specifically in control systems engineering.
  • Proficiency in Siemens PCS7 DCS, PLC, and HMI systems.
  • Expert knowledge of Fieldbus technology, including Profibus DP/PA, Modbus, and Profinet.
  • Thorough understanding of the mining process, from resource extraction to product recovery.
  • Experience with Gearless Mill Drives and associated technologies.
  • Strong understanding of IIoT, cloud computing, and virtual network architectures.
  • Practical experience in implementing expert systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), ensuring accurate implementation and maintenance of control systems.
  • Thorough understanding of mineral processing equipment and processes, including Gyratory Crushers, SAG and Ball Mills, Flotation Circuits
