Occupational Health and Safety Institute (OHSI) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Labour and Social Security established under the Occupational Health and Safety Act No. 36 of 2010, has its main Offices situated in Kitwe with two branch offices in Solwezi and Lusaka. In addition to the 3 centres, the Institute also offers occupational health and safety (OHS) services to all the sectors throughout the country on outreach basis. The Institute is looking for suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following positions;
GENERAL MEDICAL OFFICER [1 POSITION]
JOB OBJECTIVE
To prevent and manage work-related disease conditions in order to ensure that employees remain healthy and safe in their work environments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Undertakes timely and accurately medical examination of employees and prospective employees at the station and on outreach programme to ensure fitness for work
- To conduct health surveillance of employees and retirees to monitor their health trends and identify work-related illnesses early for early intervention at the station and on outreach programme.
- Timely interpretation and accurate preparation of vital signs reports for decision making
- To promote and raise awareness on OHS.
- To undertake or participate in OHS research
- Undertakes teaching and training in OHS of students in order to impart knowledge and skills.
- Supervises effectively utilization of human and other resources in the department in order to attain set objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Grade 12 School Certificate or equivalent
- Minimum Vocational/Professional Qualifications:MBChB or equivalent
- Qualification in OHS will be an added advantage
- Minimum relevant pre-job experience: 4 years working experience in the similar field
- Registered Member of the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ)
- Valid Practicing License
- Computer literate with knowledge of statistical-analytical software
- Able to write comprehensive and analytical reports
- Analytical, Team Player, Innovative and Leadership qualities
