    Job Description

    Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit highly committed employees for the position of Senior Community Relations Officer – LEP (Fixed Term) to join the Project Department. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

    Reporting to the Lead Resettlement (RAP Manager), you will be responsible for the implementation of LMC community development initiatives aligned to Community Development Committee plan as assigned. You will facilitate, promote and negotiate community planning and development projects, stakeholder engagement, monitoring and evaluation, research and analysis to keep project operations abreast with current and emerging social impacts and risks for promotion of strong stakeholder relationships, sustainable projects and grievance management according to site mechanism.

    Your duties will include but are not limited to the following: 

    • Engagements with stakeholders to build, foster and maintain relationships. Keep an updated stakeholder database and matrix to help identify engagements and other related opportunities. 
    • Frequent interaction with community leaders, local government and planning authorities and private sector. 
    • Receiving, recording and management of community grievances, enhance community safety processes and procedures to uphold the Barrick Safety DNA 
    • Take lead in strengthening systems to build viable community projects and formidable Business Enterprises 
    • Drive the infrastructure development support working in partnership with the Government and the community – Be oriented to contractual requirements 
    • Support the Community Relations Coordinator in system management 
    • Integrate climate smart approaches across community initiatives and foster biodiversity through support to the REDD+ Project 
    • Support community towards Health, Education, water and sanitation programs as a response to basic human rights. 
    • Prepares timely and accurate weekly, monthly, and annual reports on Community development initiatives that highlights achievements, constraints and strategies to improve. 
    • Develop concept notes, Scopes of works, Project Proposals and any other related programme documents 
    • Through simple research findings from needs assessments, perception surveys and other interaction platforms suggest recommendations to direct on development opportunities. 
    • Conduct Formal Risk Assessment to determine the strategic focus annually. 
    • Production of timely and accurate reports intended for various audiences including internal and external stakeholders. 
    • Conducting regular monitoring and evaluation to measure the success and effectiveness of LMC community interventions. 
    • Must be familiar with Budgetary processes 

    To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

    • Grade 12 Certificate 
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Project Management or equivalent
    • Minimum experience (5 years) in Community Development. 
    • Good understanding of local customs and practice. 
    • Good understanding of the expectations of the community in the area. 
    • Able to clearly demonstrate the aptitude to drive a light vehicle and hold a current Zambian driver’s licence or be able to obtain one.
    • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English and show a commitment to understand local culture and impart your mining operations and technical knowledge to the local Zambian mine operations personnel.

    About the Team

    The Lumwana copper mine is a conventional open pit (truck and shovel) operation. It’s located about 100 kilometers west of Solwezi in Zambia’s Copperbelt — one of the most prospective copper regions in the world. Lumwana ore, which is predominantly sulfide, is treated through a conventional sulfide flotation plant, producing copper concentrate.
