Musekese Conservation (MC)

Musekese Conservation (MC) is a Zambian conservation organisation dedicated to protecting wildlife, ecosystems, and communities across the Greater Kafue Ecosystem. We support law enforcement, ecological monitoring, and community-led conservation by working closely with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW), Community Resource Boards (CRBs), and other key partners.
The Senior Field Operations Manager (SFOM) plays a central role in overseeing day-to-day field operations and supporting strategic planning across MC’s core landscapes. Based primarily between Kasonso Busanga and Mumbwa GMAs, the SFOM will provide leadership, coordination, and logistical oversight to ensure the effective delivery of patrol strategy, infrastructure development, vehicle and equipment maintenance, and collaborative efforts with government and community partners.

This is a senior position, requiring a proactive, solutions-oriented individual with proven experience managing teams and complex field operations in remote settings.

Key Responsibilities
• Oversee field operations across Kasonso and Mumbwa GMAs, ensuring strong coordination with Area Managers.
• Lead on planning, delivery, and monitoring of patrol schedules, deployments, and special operations in collaboration with DNPW and CRBs.
• Ensure operational infrastructure (field bases, scout camps, communications, road networks) is maintained and improved.
• Coordinate vehicle and equipment use, service schedules, repairs, and reporting across the field fleet.
• Supervise and support Logistics/Fleet/Admin staff at site level, ensuring proper systems are followed.
• Identify gaps and inefficiencies in field systems and propose/implement solutions.
• Work with MC’s Programme Manager and Area Managers to roll out strategic objectives on the ground.
• Prepare operational reports and contribute to donor reporting where required.
• Build relationships with relevant DNPW and CRB representatives, maintaining trust and consistency in joint operations.

Requirements:

To be successful in the role of Senior Field Operations Manager, you should possess:
-At least 2 years’ practical experience of working in Protected Area Management, with specific experience in protected area operations/resource protection/anti-poaching/human rights training
-At least 2 years’ experience of working in Southern/Eastern Africa
-Excellent spoken and written English, working knowledge of local language desirable
-Oversee assigned infrastructure development projects and maintenance programme’s including to ensure effective budget management and cost control
-Willingness to live and work in remote conditions, with limited access to communications and modern amenities
-Ability to manage all administrative aspects of the Units, from training schedules through to kit/equipment stock and ordering, maintaining budget and contractual obligations to all staff
-Good understanding and use of Microsoft office programs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
-Good report writing and presentation skills with high attention to detail.
-Experience with African communities and government desirable
-Bachelor’s degree
-Master’s degree or equivalent work experience desirable
-Excellent organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
-Valid Driving license with Off-Road driving experience, and willing and able to drive long distances each day.

Renumeration: Competitive and negotiable on experience and to be discussed with the successful candidate. Schedule and travel to also be discussed with the successful candidate.
